A R T I S T   S T A T E M E N T

Symbols, rudimentary alphabets and ancient graffiti using mixed media, specifically encaustic, acrylic and pencil on wood panel. My work also encompasses mapping from the imagination. I like the idea of meandering and learning new things through accidental discovery... I would like the viewer to be able to "read" my paintings and wander through them...

I have always been fascinated with symbols, specifically alphabets, from ancient to modern, recognizable to magical. My intent in my work is to tap into the collective unconscious, that which is universal and familiar, layered with the individual and mysterious. Things are not always what they seem. I like ambiguity reflected in the use of gold leaf, which looks different depending on the angle you look at it from. I continue to explore ways through paper, pencil, acrylic and encaustic to uncover my own ancient language.

I have taught decorative painting at the JCC, taken many art classes at the New Art Center and the Museum School and shown my work at the JCC, Starr Gallery, the Holwasser Gallery at the New Art Center, and Newton Open Studios.
